Eli Efrat is Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Axxana. Mr. Efrat brings to Axxana more than two decades of experience in building and managing successful technology companies.
Prior to co-founding Axxana, Mr. Efrat was CEO of MessageVine, a leader in providing presence and instant messaging solutions to wireless carriers and ISPs. Before MessageVine, he co-founded Veon, an innovator in the area of digital video and broadband Internet, and led the company to a successful acquisition by Philips, to become that company’s MP4Net Group. Before Veon, Mr. Efrat co-founded Algotec Systems, a leader in the picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) space, which was acquired by Kodak.
Mr. Efrat was selected to be part of the prestigious Haman Talpiot project of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF)—an elite military R&D unit, where he was awarded the esteemed IDF Intelligence Creative Thinking Award. He holds a B.Sc. in Industrial Engineering from Tel Aviv University.
Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Alex Winokur is Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Axxana. Dr. Winokur is a world-renowned innovator in the areas of data management, data protection, and storage. He has a rich background in systems engineering and a proven record of developing high-performance, high-availability storage subsystems. Dr. Winokur is a strong leader with an established record of building R&D organizations and was named on CRN’s 2010 list of “Storage Superstars.”
Prior to co-founding Axxana, Dr. Winokur was CTO of XIV Information Systems (acquired by IBM) and Founder of Sepaton (formerly SANgate), a successful startup company in the area of storage area networks (SANs).
Prior to that, Dr. Winokur spent 11 years in the IBM Research Division, achieving the prestigious title of IBM Master Inventor, and authoring and co-authoring more than 15 patents in the areas of storage, network management, and telecommunication.
Dr. Winokur holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. from the Technion, Israel’s Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. from Penn State University.

Michal Smorgik is Chief Financial Officer at Axxana. Michal brings more than 20 years of experience in finance management with technology companies, as well as consulting and investment firms.
Prior to joining Axxana, Ms. Smorgik was Controller for Vertex Venture Capital and Vitalife Sciences Fund, an Israeli venture capital fund investing in information networking, communications, software, and life sciences companies.
Prior to that, she was Controller for Peptor Ltd., a biopharmaceutical company developing novel therapeutics for the treatment of Type-I diabetes and cancer. Before Peptor, Michal was a manager at Deloitte-Touche-Tohmatsu in Tel Aviv, where she managed services provided to technology and real estate customers.
Michal is a Certified Public Accountant. She holds a B.A. in Economics and Accounting from Tel Aviv University and an MBA from Tel Aviv University.
Chief Financial Officer
Alain Azagury is Vice President of R&D at Axxana and oversees all of Axxana’s R&D activities.
Prior to joining Axxana, Mr. Azagury held multiple positions at IBM, including Director of IBM Software Technical Strategy. In that role, he led a global team that drove business and development transformation, platform strategy, and cross-software and hardware synergy across IBM products. Before that, he was Director of IBM XIV Storage Systems Development, spearheading the XIV acquisition and early integration into IBM and driving its growth into a major business within IBM Storage. He was also Director of the Systems and Technology Group Lab in Israel. In April 2009, he completed an 18-month assignment in Hawthorne, New York as Director of Service Product Technology. In this role, Mr. Azagury oversaw the relationship between IBM Research and IBM Information Technology Services, where he focused on asset and intellectual property creation for the different service product lines. Previous to that, Mr. Azagury was Department General Manager of Storage and Systems Technologies at the IBM Research Lab in Haifa. During his tenure at IBM, he was a member of the IBM Academy of Technology, as well as an IBM Master Inventor.
From 2003 until 2006, Mr. Azagury taught courses on file systems and operating systems structure as a member of the Computer Science faculty of the Technion, Israel’s Institute of Technology. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Areas of interest include distributed and fault-tolerant systems, storage systems and copy services functions, file systems, object storage, Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI), and memory management.
Mr. Azagury holds a B.Sc. (summa cum laude) and M.Sc. from the Technion, Israel’s Institute of Technology.
Vice President of R&D
Doron Hendler is Vice President of Sales and brings to Axxana more than 20 years of experience in managing global sales teams.
Prior to joining Axxana, Mr. Hendler was Vice President of Sales at SURF Communication Solutions, leading global sales and professional services activities. Before SURF, Mr. Hendler was Vice President of Sales at Trivnet, a leading provider of mPayment and mCommerce solutions to leading European Tier-1 mobile and wired telecommunications service providers. Prior to joining Trivnet, Mr. Hendler was Sales Director for Global Accounts at NICE Systems, a global leader of multimedia digital recording solutions, applications, and related professional services.
Mr. Hendler holds a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Coventry University and an MBA from Heriot-Watt University.
