Eli Efrat, Chief Executive Officer
Eli Efrat brings to Axxana almost two decades of experience in building and managing high-tech companies. Prior to co-founding Axxana, Mr. Efrat was the CEO of MessageVine, the global leader in providing presence and Instant Messaging solutions to wireless carriers and ISPs. Before this, Mr. Efrat co-founded Veon, an innovator in the area of Digital Video and Broadband Internet and lead the company to a successful acquisition by Philips, to become that company's MP4Net Group. Before Veon, Mr. Efrat was a co-founder of Algotec Systems, a leader in the Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) space and a Kodak company today. Mr. Efrat was hand-picked to be a member of the prestigious Israeli Defense Forces Haman Talpiot project, an elite military R&D unit where he was awarded the esteemed IDF Intelligence Creative Thinking Award. Mr. Efrat holds a B.Sc. in Industrial Engineering from Tel Aviv University.
Dr. Alex Winokur, Chief Technology Officer
Dr. Alex Winokur is a prime innovator in the area of data management, data protection and the storage industry. Dr. Winokur spent eleven years in the IBM Research Division, achieving the prestigious IBM Master Inventor title, and authoring and co-authoring over 15 patents in storage, network management, and telecommunication areas. Dr. Winokur has a rich systems engineering background and a proven record of developing high-performance, high-availability storage subsystems. He is a strong leader with an established record of building R&D organizations. Prior to co-founding Axxana, Dr. Winokur was the CTO of XIV Information Systems (acquired by IBM) and the founder of Sepaton (Formerly SANgate), a successful start up company in the area of Storage Area Networks (SAN). Dr. Winokur holds B.Sc. and M.Sc from the Technion, Israel's Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. from Penn State University.
Raphi Hess, Vice President of R&D
Raphi Hess brings with him 25 years of experience in R&D, in both start-ups and large organizations. Raphi joins Axxana after serving as VP R&D at Modu. Prior to Modu, Raphi was the worldwide VP R&D at the OMSN Product Group of the Optical division at Alcatel-Lucent. In this position, Raphi managed activities of approx. 600 engineers worldwide (Italy, Israel, Germany, China, plus off-shore in India). Raphi joined Alcatel as part of the Native Networks acquisition, where he served as its VP R&D and Site Manager. Prior to that, Raphi was VP R&D at P-Cube, a start-up dealing in Service Management Platforms and served as R&D Manager at Nicecom, which was acquired by 3com.
Raphi holds several degrees from the Tel Aviv University including an Executive MBA, M.Sc in Applied Mathematics and a B.Sc in Computer Science and Mathematics.
Doron Hendler, Vice President of Sales
Doron Hendler has garnered over 13 years of experience in sales and management. Prior to joining Axxana, Doron was in charge of SURF's worldwide Sales and Professional Services activities. Before that, Doron served for four years as VP of Sales at Trivnet, a leading provider of mPayment and mCommerce solutions to leading European Tier-1 mobile and wireline telecommunication service providers. Prior to joining Trivnet, Doron was Sales Director for Global Accounts at NICE Systems, a worldwide leader of multimedia digital recording solutions, applications and related professional services.
Doron holds an MBA from Hariott Watt University and a BSc. in Electrical Engineering from Coventry University in the UK.
Michal Smorgik, Vice President of Finance and Administration
Prior to joining Axanna, Michal Smorgik was controller for Vertex Venture Capital and Vitalife Sciences Fund, an Israeli venture capital fund investing in companies dealing with information networking, communications, software and life sciences. Previously, Ms. Smorgik was controller for Peptor, Ltd., a biopharmaceutical company engaged in the discovery and development of novel therapeutics for the treatment of type one diabetes and cancer. Before this, Ms. Smorgik was a manager at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu in Tel Aviv, where she was responsible for clients from the high-tech, software and real estate arenas. Ms. Smorgik is a qualified Certified Public Accountant and holds a B.A. in Economics and Accounting from Tel Aviv University as well as an M.B.A. from the Recanati School of Business Administration, Tel Aviv University.
